Socks and Shoes

Finding the right socks and shoes can be a challenge.  What may fit with one person’s orthotics may not work with another’s.  Here is a list of different brands that are more likely to provide a good fit and great style.

KeepingPace orthopedic footwear is specially designed with a wider heel and toe box, adjustable depth, more stable sole, and fray resistant lining.  Shoes come in fashionable styles for both children and adults.

While Stride Rite shoes are designed for typical children, styles come in wide sizes.

Preschoolian shoes are super flexible and are easy to measure for right in your own home.

Crocs come in different styles, and can be great for the beach or pool.

Bite Shoes will fit over adult orthotics as long as they have a removable footbed.

Hatchbacks are designed as easy-on easy-off, by pivoting open at a hinge.

Nordstrom is known for great customer service and they are willing to work with people with special shoe needs.  Find one in your area. 

Other brand name shoes that have been known to run wide and fit over AFOs are New Balance, Sketchers, Vans, KSwiss, and Lands End .

Kamik makes a snowboot that opens wide for AFOs.

KnitRite and SmartKnit are two well known manufacturers of seamless socks.  You may have to have a prescription to order.

    Found these great tall socks for kids. They go up over the knee and would work well with KAFO’s. Plus they are FUN! Am going to order some for my son, and thought I’d share!
